Basra to host International Friendship Tournament

Iraq will host its first inter-nation tournament since 2002 as the International Friendship Tournament will be held at Basra Sports City between Iraq, Qatar and Syria to celebrate the lifting of the ban. The Lions' two games are on 21 March (Qatar) and 27 March (Syria).

Noor Sabri and Qusay Munir given last call-up

Iraq have decided to call up 2007 Asian Cup-winning legends Noor Sabri and Qusay Munir for the International Friendship Tournament as means of giving them a testimonial. It also means Noor Sabri will be able to make his landmark 100th appearance in Iraq's colours.

FIFA lifts Iraqi stadium ban for three cities

The FIFA Council decided to lift the ban on Iraq hosting competitive matches in the cities of Basra, Karbala and Erbil and in the meantime will monitor the situation in Baghdad. This means Iraq can now host World Cup qualifiers at home while their clubs can host AFC Cup and Arab Champions League games.

Dhurgham Ismail suffers another injury

2015 Asian Cup left-back of the tournament, Dhurgham Ismail, has been injured again only just after recovering from a previous injury. He will be out for one month at minimum, and could be out for longer than that.

Iraqi FA Cup cancelled

The 2017-18 edition of the Iraqi FA Cup has been cancelled by the IFA due to lack of time, meaning the winners and runners-up of the Iraqi Premier League are set to qualify for both the 2019 AFC Cup and 2019-20 Arab Champions League. The league is still yet to reach its halfway stage.
